Why We Grow Heirloom Seeds

I originally intended for this to be a written post, where I carefully detail what each seed is, decipher the merry-go-round that is seed selection, and how we landed on the choice to grow heirloom seeds only.

And then I realized that when I read articles about seed classification and scientific discoveries and all kinds of different names and descriptions that I can’t seem to keep straight… that’s when my eyes glaze over and when I reach the end I think “wait… what did I just read?”.

And so, for the folks like me, the ones who are truly interested in gardening and getting back to your roots, but sometimes the what and why doesn’t make a lot of sense… I decided to make a video.

Trying to understand seed labels and choose what’s best for YOU can be confusing! There’s so many options, so many terms. Are all GMO’s bad? How do I know what I’m planting in my garden? Is a hybrid the same thing? Are all seeds created equal? I break it down for you here, and go in depth on why we chose to grow Heirloom seeds by discussing the pros and cons of all three seed types.

Don’t let uncertainty deter you from planting your own garden, nor from choosing the seeds that are best for you. From commercial farmers to homesteaders to slightly green-thumbed backyard gardeners, there is a healthy seed choice that will guide you on the path to growing your own food. You can do this!
